Even if the new shows didn't suffer from a crisis of quality, if you have any respect for the utopian vision of Star Trek and the values it tried to promote, you should understand why we are obligated to avoid supporting Paramount & doing free publicity for them. But the news shows *do* suffer from a crisis of quality. Because Star Trek without the politics is just people shouting at each other while explosions happen.

@fuckfetish@fuckaas.space ST died with Roddenberry as far as I am concerned. Not a single series after his death has any of his spark. People who say ST was never political are the same kind of people who say Jane Austen was a romance novelist. Those who advocate for justice most brilliantly are the ones who can do it over the heads of the clueless.

@fuckfetish@fuckaas.space i know this doesn't occupy a gap on the table of capitalism/free speech incompatibility, historic or contemporary. but goddamnit can more people not see what is on both tables?

@fuckfetish@fuckaas.space 47 is exactly the kind of scumbag that Kirk would have happily violated The Prime Directive in order to get rid of. #8647 #SetPhasersToDisintegrate

@fuckfetish@fuckaas.space In some way it's old news, industry-wide. Susan Sarandon was the first example that my partner told me. Demonstrated in 2023, blacklisted soon thereafter. Yet this doesn't mean you can keep your P(ee)+ subscription. It's a reason to cancel ALL subscriptions. CC: @aral@mastodon.ar.al
