Oh I see midish backs directly onto (openbsd origin) sndio or else alsa for linux I guess.

@screwlisp@gamerplus.org @Doomed_Daniel@mastodon.gamedev.place mollytime already has an alsa backend, so this wouldn't be any more useful than me implementing a sndio backend directly
