randomly remembering animal crossing and the "nintendo expects you to buy multiple switches just to have multiple islands?????" controversy. very obtuse. not to defend nintendo, i'm just saying they didn't expect people to want to play on multiple islands in the first place. which may have been shortsighted of them, but it is very annoying when software is just missing a feature, and people go "you are INTENTIONALLY and MALICIOUSLY PREVENTING me from doing this thing with your software!!!"

it reminds me of the guy who said python3 is not turing complete because it doesn't run python2 scripts, ergo it can not "do anything"

@freja@freja.zone I haven't played animal crossing so correct me if im wrong, but the sense I've gotten from what I've seen of the design is that the idea is usually that you have a town/whatever that belongs to you and some details about that town is out of your hands? Like, the idea to me seem to be that the games are supposed to be like, a digital home town of sorts rather than a minecraft world? Like, obviously you got a lot more agency managing your space that you'd realistically have even as a mayor, but it's still a place you manage more than a place you create.
