@ainmosni@social.ainmosni.eu @jjcelery@mastodon.ie @diazona@techhub.social That’s how a lot of classic cursed items worked: they’d behave like beneficial items of a similar type until the situation really mattered, at which point the curse came into effect. There were of course some that caused trouble as soon as you interacted with them (the Vacuous Grimoire came to mind in the context of Intelligence/Wisdom drain), but I suspect something nearer the Ring of Contrariness or Ring of Delusion would be a better fit for this metaphor
