🛠️ Note: Enough folks say use an air duster or nothing at all, or that you will ruin your USB-C ports. Only do repairs and maintenance to your own comfort or qualifications! 🚨 This is your annual reminder that the charger port on your phone collects all the pocket lint into a super compressed layer at the back and eventually makes your cables just loose enough to be annoying but not enough to not charge. Five minutes with a thin toothpick will disgust you and make it feel like new.

@vees@jawns.club it’s safer to use compressed air or power duster. It’s possible to damage the contacts in the port if you’re digging around in there with something solid.

@vees@jawns.club You know what is AWESOME for that? Those little pin things they give you to change a SIM card. The ones from OnePlus fit perfectly in the USBc slot.

@vees@jawns.club USB C ports are next to impossible to clean by mechanical action without damaging the 24-odd pins on the central shaft

@vees@jawns.club this is why my phone, when it goes into my pocket, goes connector-down.

@vees@jawns.club Just had to deal with that last week... (think some crud got in when I was gardening). Tried blasting it with electronic contact cleaner, but that didn't help (wasn't sure where my compressed air was). My custom USB-C port cleaning kit (I just cut stiff plastic into slightly hook-shaped wedges). The caps of sprayer bottles have just the right stiffness and thickness for the task.

@vees@jawns.club for phone ports, canned air is fine, since the ports are purpose-built to be waterproof. However other devices like laptops may NOT be waterproof.

@vees@jawns.club i got a pack of rubber/silicon port savers off AliExpress and they have extended the life of my phone usb-c ports from approx 1 year to longer than the rest of the phone.
