@bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot You’re right. I suppose I don’t consider whispering reading out loud because it’s quiet enough for no one else but me to hear it. But it is loud enough for me to pick up on run-on sentences, or when I need to add a pause.

    @SJHoodlet@writing.exchange It's amazing how the ear can pick up things that the eye misses. I can read a sentence with a repeated word over and over without noticing. Hear it, though, and the repetition stands out. Hearing the text in my mind works as well. With one of my books — nonfiction — I imagined hearing it in the voice of my favorite NPR newsreader. I found that I wanted to adjust the rhythm of the prose in ways I otherwise wouldn't have thought of.
