If you pick just one thing to focus on from my previous post, you’re missing the point. They’re all part of the same thing. The fascists are our enemy. Don’t fight with each other. Fight them.

@fraying@xoxo.zone in terms of TikTok and social media in general, we need better Data Protection mechanisms and regulations; We can acknowledge the problem of TikTok and CCP’s relationship and how it’s a state tool for foreign intel collection, without being xenophobic. The attempt to label talking out against TikTok as xenophobic is at best counterproductive, at worst malicious.

@fraying@xoxo.zone all of those things are not like the others. The right to bodily autonomy and healthcare, and teenagers right to use an app the Chinese government bans their own citizens from using are not the same. Just fcking stop.

@fraying@xoxo.zone I'm not sure arguments for banning TikTok and altering Section 230 have much to do with the rest of these things (all of which are certainly far right in nature). Both have their advocates on both sides of the aisle. It's certainly not true that all the worry about TikTok is xenophobia, and it's not exactly the case that Section 230 protects speech online either. Important not to fall into the trap of polarising every issue. EDIT: This was an unnecessarily overbearing reply. Sorry.

@fraying@xoxo.zone @shantini@techhub.social it’s not xenophobic when the problem is the Chinese government with evidence of constant abuses and the control they have over companies. It has nothing to do with the Chinese people except to simpletons and Chinese regime sympathizers.
