@fraying@xoxo.zone in terms of TikTok and social media in general, we need better Data Protection mechanisms and regulations; We can acknowledge the problem of TikTok and CCP’s relationship and how it’s a state tool for foreign intel collection, without being xenophobic. The attempt to label talking out against TikTok as xenophobic is at best counterproductive, at worst malicious.

@lightyourmind@me.dm @fraying@xoxo.zone Truly, the notion of banning TikTok is not xenophobic, and not like the forms of actual hatred and intolerance you listed. Complying with Chinese government requests — including those involving espionage and censorship — is required of all Chinese companies by law. I must add that telling people you disagree with to f* off is not just lazy, it’s rude, crass, and not helpful in making the fediverse a civil environment for discourse and community building.
