@aesthr@wandering.shop the more I think about it the more this seems like a direct function of mastodon’s absolutely trash community-level moderation capabilities. When you can’t rely on a centralized company to hire a bunch of people to play whack-a-mole with these losers, you need something that scales. The community has tried to do these things itself ofc (fediblock) but you need something more accessible in general at the individual level, and with sharper teeth. I’ll hand it to bsky for building a lot of these tools already while mastodon continues to drag its knuckles on the ground and operate a largely-unmoderated mega instance

@aesthr@wandering.shop I saw the reply you received, that was weird, dark and uncalled-for. I'm sorry that happened to you...a reply like that would fuck me up all day. The culture here has a real dark side.

@aesthr@wandering.shop I’m really sorry that has been your experience. 😞 I’ve been on here since 2016 and generally have had decent conversations. Every now and then there’s been something strange, but overall it’s been good. (Maybe it’s what I post about or something.)

@aesthr@wandering.shop sad to here this! I enjoy your posts and boosts so I really appreciate you being here. But yeah, I have heard other people voicing the same experience so I guess this is a bigger issue. Both culturally and tehnical I would guess. I agree that pointing individual users to use tools and configs in a very specific way is a very libertarian hands off approach. It's better if we as a collective (or rather several collectives) would enforce a better culture.
