@aesthr@wandering.shop the more I think about it the more this seems like a direct function of mastodon’s absolutely trash community-level moderation capabilities. When you can’t rely on a centralized company to hire a bunch of people to play whack-a-mole with these losers, you need something that scales. The community has tried to do these things itself ofc (fediblock) but you need something more accessible in general at the individual level, and with sharper teeth.
I’ll hand it to bsky for building a lot of these tools already while mastodon continues to drag its knuckles on the ground and operate a largely-unmoderated mega instance

@zkat@fedi.zkat.tech i don’t know if it’s just the available tools. A lot of the hostility i see is technically not violating any rules. People here are often really good at wrapping vile shit in civil words. I feel like there’s a cultural aspect to it as well, with both places attracting certain types more than the other. I mean fedi is infamous for its reply-guys

@aesthr@wandering.shop but yeah I don’t think it’s particularly because people on fedi happen to be more trash. It’s that shitty people get to actually stick around and take up space here more than anywhere else.
