Hi folks! I would love to hear about the non-standard physical #homelab #selfhosting security measures you've taken. From alarms to boobytraps, from customized IKEA boxes to reinforced closets. The crazier the better! One requirement: you need to have it implemented (at some point in the past or currently). No concepts that never left the design table please.

I will kick this one off myself: At one point (not currently), I've had multiple sensors in the server room, combined with a cooldown timer. Entering it unauthorized or not waiting for the timer would instantly cut the power off (from the most sensitive machines). EDIT: Should also mention that the server room was guarded by a viscious German shepherd.

@h3artbl33d@exquisite.social The server room floor is sometimes in such a mess that most people would trip, fall, and injure themselves sufficiently to give up on attempting to intrude further? (Seriously though, break-ins into homes are pretty much unheard of around here; I have a camera in the room, but that's mainly as an early warning system in case we get flooded again.)

@h3artbl33d@exquisite.social I clued the RAM to the socket to stand against cold boot attacks. However the clue found its way into the socket and destroyed both the RAM and the motherboard. 😥 (Today I'm instead using a computer with encrypted RAM.)

@h3artbl33d@exquisite.social hmmmmmmm I haven't implemented anything yet but one brand I've used for shades just came out with a curtain rod kit and it is tempting to get that so I can have the curtains close as someone walks up to the house.....

@h3artbl33d@exquisite.social Wait, let me think. Level 1: I'm moving to a village in the Alps. Too far, too cold for many. Level 2: Everyone knows everyone there. Level 3: A dog that always wants cuddles. Bonus level: if someone steals the Apple hardware (the rest is too old), law enforcement will know its location thanks to government trojans ;-)
