If you are #selfhosting / #homelabbing: you have my utmost respect. Do not trust other parties to have your back - because they don't. However, few words to the wise: if you operate a minimalist setup - eg everything running in VMs on a single host: please do consider the consequences of downtime. You probably don't want to run your critical services on one machine without a fallback. If those services include your smarthome foundation, DNS and firewalling: you don't want to troubl...

Today I received an email from Supermicro that they've released new BMC firmware and a BIOS for some systems I subscribed to. Nothing special. That is, until I noticed what machine was listed. Introduced late 2015/early 2016 :flan_awe: I have never purchased whatever support. Both Supermicro and Dell work this way. HPE does not. They require you to have overzealous support agreements, costing an arm and a leg. No agreement, no BIOS updates for you :flan_nooo: In most cases, companies...

Our #Peertube instance, Exquisite.tube runs v8.2.1 since this morning. Normally we tend to be quicker with rolling out updates. However, there was some background work going on in forking and customizing the update script - which I will attempt to upstream. There are some security patches included. The vulnerabilities did not apply to us or were already mitigated using different means. After this plumbing is done, the next step is to scale up our transcoding capabilities. It should be ready,...

GrapheneOS, the mobile Android OS geared towards security and privacy without consessions, is at Android 17. It is now in the beta channel, there will likely follow another build shortly that makes it to the stable channel. The team did a fantastic job porting over so quickly and meticously. I have been running the experimental releases on a Pixel 9 Pro and a Pixel 7 and it has been smooth sailing. #GrapheneOS #Android #Security #Privacy

@stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe @outofcreativity@exquisite.social Nice! We have played a (minor) part into getting it ready for #OpenBSD, by giving the devs access to some compute - which resulted in a commit spree that I hadn't seen before. They are incredibly kind, humble and knowledgeable.

@stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe But surely Svetlana, who wants to sign up because the community might appreciate her erotic content, isn't exactly what BSD Cafe is about It isn't? You mean I have been wrong this entire time thinking it actually was a misspelled BSDM Cafe? So... What is this BSD thing? :flan_XD: (sorry I will show myself out now)

Morning lovely Fedi! ☕ The Network Digitale Samenleving (Network Digital Society) of the Dutch Greens (GroenLinks-PvdA / Progessief Nederland) embraced PeerTube. They've posted the talks of their Digital Summit at Exquisite.tube :flan_hurrah: This is fantastic news! #Fediverse #PeerTube #Decentralised #GroenLinks #PvdA #ProgressiefNederland

Hi folks! I would love to hear about the non-standard physical #homelab #selfhosting security measures you've taken. From alarms to boobytraps, from customized IKEA boxes to reinforced closets. The crazier the better! One requirement: you need to have it implemented (at some point in the past or currently). No concepts that never left the design table please.

BSD Conference in NLOn Saturday, 9th of May, there is the Spring edition of BSD-NL :flan_hurrah: Our lovely BSD conference, held in the Netherlands. Or more specifically, in Utrecht - which is the centre of our little country. Do you use the BSDs in any way - whether personally, professionally? Everyone with even the slightest interest into the BSDs is welcome, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned maintainer/contributor :flan_hacker: There will be a couple of talks/presentations, plenty of...

Probably Microsoft had an internal communication error and stuck with it. What we know as Outlook should have been named Lookout. What a piece of shit software. Ever since the first iteration, but it feels like the Win11 app said "hold my beer, you haven't dug deep enough".
