@markcooper@mastodon.online @bodhipaksa@mastodon.scot Exactly. Especially for those of us who tried to fight this fight for the last 30+ years. And during that time, the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere has increased, year after year, with only a small decline when covid hit. There is no reason to expect that it will decline any time in the near future. That's not being a doomer, or an alarmist, it's being realistic.
I found it hard to have hope back in the early 90's, but I desperately clung to it, believing that people would wake and make changes.
But now, we are locked in to the next 20-30 years, no matter WHAT we do. I don't think a lot of people realize, or admit that.
I would rather focus on acceptance and adaptation rather than try to prevent what is unpreventable at this point.

@perpetualmystic@universeodon.com @markcooper@mastodon.online Well, by definition we can't prevent what's unpreventable, so to try to do that would be futile. Regarding accepting/adapting, there's a certain amount of that we're going to have to do anyway, but without taking strong steps to limit emissions the question arises, what are you planning to adapt to? A 2°C rise in global temperatures? A 4°C rise? 6°C? 8°C? An uninhabitable planet? Things will keep getting worse on our current course. We need to change course.
