This isn’t the first time Parkrun has come under fire from ‘gender-critical’ campaigners – back in 2024 they received public criticism that their run time recording was organised by gender and not sex (participants can have their time recorded under the ‘Male’, ‘Female’ or ‘Prefer not to Say’ categories).

Parkrun has justified its stance, saying this is aligned with their ethos as a “health and wellbeing charity that provides non-competitive, socially-focused physical activity, and allows people to identify in the way they feel most appropriate and comfortable.”
