@paavi@mastodon.social @eviltrout@carpdiem.online @Gargron@mastodon.social open source does not mean public domain. The creator of Mastodon still retains all the copyrights and could pull the software out of open source any time. He is also the one deciding that goes into mastodon and what doesn’t.

@botolo86@mstdn.social @paavi@mastodon.social @Gargron@mastodon.social it can easily be forked as has been done with countless open source projects before. Also you can build another client on the ActivityPub open standard. That’s two giant paths to recourse that private sites do not offer.
