come to think of it, there really is a huge difference in those two genders of dick jokes and I’m wondering if it says more than I originally had in mind. the cishet bro’s dick joke is so often distant, sarcastic, crude in ways that try to say “I’m joking about something bad” - and dissonant from their expectation of other people’s reactions. they expect others, especially women, to appreciate their dick, while denying themselves honest appreciation thereof and making sure no one can “accuse” them of it. oh, wait, did I mean to say “dick joke” instead of just “dick” in that sentence? whoops. our dick jokes, however? they tend to be much more playful, honest and loving. which has to be so uncomfortable for someone trapped in patriarchy’s illusion of superiority enforced by a threat of shame. no wonder they say “not like that”. /erin

@erin@fedi.quiescent.nexus we once explained to someone that it's not about whether we personally think the joke is funny, it's about how it makes people feel to hear it. we then elaborated that we thought they would probably be quite uncomfortable if we started telling jokes about cylindrical objects being filleted, grated, severed with garden sheers, etc. we think we made our point.
