I realize that what's happening right now feels huge, and I sympathize with the sense of powerlessness that can grow when we look at the news and see these big things happening. However, I can assure you that these big things have been set into motion and are, in fact, sustained by an uncountable number of tiny human interactions behind the scenes. Discomfort today can build a better world tomorrow. 20/20

    Addendum - It's worth noting that racism is also what motivates the destruction of the social safety net in the U.S. It isn't an innocent accident of policy that jobs are tied to health insurance and many other benefits, and black folks are often "first fired, last hired". It isn't an accident that the "welfare queen" stereotype is a black woman, and then white folks vote their own rights away. Racism harms both the oppressed and the oppressor. Real social change must address it.
