I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm not sure that the U.S. is just having a "gilded age". I also think that the U.S. is tearing itself back to an almost antebellum idea of race and racism.
You can't divide the "gilded age" from the racial violence that defined the same era, and discussing the one without the other presents an inaccurate picture of what's happening.

This is something that needs to be understood, because I feel like talking about race and racism seems to be slipping to the back of folks minds in the mess of other stuff happening right now. I completely sympathize with it, too. There are way too many things to think about and keep track of right now, but I just want to share something. 11/20
