I'm sad I didn't do umbrella justice but I was really feeling down and needed to hype myself up I think it was even van goth that said that while his mental episode made him a better artist, it sucked *while having it* Which yeah, mood I don't believe in the tortured artist, at all. There is a richness of experience that informs art one has to have somehow, and trauma can provide that yes, but many other human experiences can do that as well. However you can barely create anything when you can't even get yourself to leave the bed no matter what

@MiaWinter@tech.lgbt often short works are purer — the ones that just spring from your mind without planning and editing and overthinking (you can't do the same things with them that you can do with a longer story, but sometimes you don't need to) and when you've got a lot of intense emotions, and haven't written for a while, they tend to all come out at once, like crying out same thing for music, which hasn't quite been the same since the specter of global thermonuclear annihilation faded in the nineties
