@nick@sloan.host @hynek@mastodon.social To the second point: there was never a pipeline or roadmap to break. Software engineering as a career has been entirely organically grown because of durable, outsized demand compared to supply. e.g. we had interns because we literally needed more bodies, forever. If I’m wrong on my first point in my first post, the way we fix this is to actually build a roadmap and pipeline; something like formal apprenticeships.

@kyle@mister.computer @nick@sloan.host There is no formal roadmap to excellence: I’m not pearl-clutching over entry jobs or interns who knows how that will play out. Some companies are even hiring them in the hopes LLMs can baby-sit them. Rather, I’m observing growing nihilism towards getting good at things “because an AI can do that better” which is true for almost all skills except those that we cho(o)se to be excellent at.
