( · extremely weird codec specifications · tons of scary ffmpeg incantations · special different encoding necessary for Safari only, which doesn’t support transparent WebM · while creating works, I can’t get transcoding to work · weird non-transparent pixel row that I cannot get rid of except *cropping while showing* · not to mention how hard it is to *produce* transparent video to begin with )

@mwichary@mastodon.online I messed around with this recently generating the video from a MediaStream in the browser and it worked but the semi-transparent edge pixels were calculated incorrectly and I eventually gave up and put everything on the back-burner. Meant to go back and try again from a WASMified FFMpeg, but ugh

@mwichary@mastodon.online, put a green background, everybody will just think their browser doesn't support it.

@mwichary@mastodon.online before the era of H.264, you could directly export transparent video from Keynote! just animate the stuff you want between slides and have it drop the slide background to transparent. was super useful for quick prototypes
