Still don’t quite know what to do with this project, but just updated text.makeup with new Unicode/emoji, SF Symbols, transgender symbols, and a few other things. The most tricky part, however, was adding explanations for Punycode in international domains, because that encoding/escaping is wild and non-linear! Check it out → https://text.makeup

    It’s definitely a lil project that’s useful to force me to learn new things! (You know the old adage: if you want to understand something, force yourself to explain it to someone else.) I also have this dream of writing about the mysteries and beauty of Unicode one day. I think there must be so many good stories hidden in those codepoints.

    @mwichary@mastodon.online I recently used your site as a quick tool to see the invisible characters a spam attack was using on Flickr! (The thing where a browser transparently removes invisible characters from a url string before navigating to it can jump directly into the sun)

    @mwichary@mastodon.online Yah, punycode is wild.

    @mwichary@mastodon.online You don't seem to be able to show the alternative glyphs in unified Han (traditional Chinese vs simplified Chinese, etc). The website does seem to change the typeface being used to render the character, but not the character, eg 间 vs 間
