@jk@mastodon.social @gabboman But what about the "jump back X seconds" feature? The core value proposition of VLC is to play all videos on all platforms. So consuming the video is the main use case.
Jumping back X seconds is useful in situations like "Oh, I just missed what they were saying in the video because I was pouring tea, can we jump back a tiny bit?" which comes up during normal video watching.
But "Can we go back a single frame?" is not a question you have if you're just consuming video. 2/

@jk@mastodon.social @gabboman So in the grand scheme of things, it makes total sense to _not_ do "single frame back" as a feature, because it is not part of the core VLC use case. Especially not if it's hard to implement -- the time spent on it is better spent elsewhere. 3/3

@heinragas@mublog.nl @gabboman it's a question i have quite a lot, and i think a lot of people do nowadays. for example, a large number of youtube creators will embed single-frame jokes in their videos, stuff like that. youtube itself even has the feature, with the , and . keys. (think about how many youtube videos exist compared to all the movies ever made!)
