@jk@mastodon.social Many users give examples of software where it _does_ work, but that software can make certain assumptions about the data/codec that VLC cannot make.
Some use cases simply can't be serviced in a general-purpose piece of software, and require a specific piece of software that can accommodate that.
In my day job, I frequently reject feature requests like this, because they would violate the core assumptions of our product. We just can't afford to do that. 2/2

@heinragas@mublog.nl there's tons of features in the program that don't work for all formats! greying out an option based on format is completely normal behavior, and i constantly come across things that are broken in VLC because the format doesn't support it, many of them to do with seeking and skipping. it's *always* been like this, for at least 15 years. and the users themselves are even sharing addons/scripts that provide the needed functionality!
