@CanvasesByPeter@mementomori.social There is a branch of religious thought that says happy and/or rich people have been favoured by God and miserable/poor people are disfavoured. This is the prosperity gospel. It has some logic, if you are going to believe in an all-powerful God who is controlling everything, but then you have to wonder why God creates some people to make them happy and others to make them suffer.

@ghouston@mamot.fr I don't believe in a 'God' per se, personally, but I don't doubt that the rich and "elite" have *amended* the bible over the centuries to suit their own purposes. Any 'God' whose mandate is "follow me or go to hell" is not what 'Goodness' is about.

@ghouston@mamot.fr Remind a "follower" that the bible was NOT written by God, Jesus, or even Mary, and that it was in fact written by actual humans based on what they "think" 'God' may have wanted, and watch how angry the "follower" gets.. Despite it being the absolute truth.
