Finally realized: VA's old hard drive got stashed in a USB external case, and it was plugged into my box so I could grab some files off it. The machine was booting to her boot partition instead of mine.
Unplugged her drive, all is well.
Jesus Fucking Christ.
I have really have no calm these days, no place or time where I feel rested and whole.

@GeePawHill@mastodon.social funny things these computers! When the unexpected happens it is often because they just did what I told them to do. Just takes a while to work out where I screwed up. Glad you worked out out and saved the evening!
