@jilleduffy@mastodon.social I think my expectation is that a vowel before a single consonant is long, and before a double consonant it’s short. (Bonny/bony, slimming/sliming.)
So ‘vomited’ should rhyme with ‘throw’ and ‘might’, or be spelled vommitted.

@benjamineskola@hachyderm.io Exactly! English is hard. It is my first language, and I still have so many memories of learning spelling, rules of capitalization, grammar that I thought were ridiculous! But it is my favorite language
