I guess I want to close by stating my biases. I'm a web guy. I've been bullish on the web for 20+ years, and I will continue to be. I think it is an extremely capable and unique platform for delivering software. And it has only gotten better over time while retaining an incredible level of backwards compatibility. The underlying tools we have are dope now. But our current framework layer is working against the grain instead of embracing the platform.

@polotek@social.polotek.net I agree with everything. The one thing I kinda want people not to rebuild themselves is form controls, getting the accessibility right is hard and there's value in relying on a framework/toolkit there, provided they've done a good job with it. Obviously it's a great way to learn about accessibility building them yourself

@polotek@social.polotek.net I feel like expressiveness and authoring are issues we just *do* not address properly. You'll see occasional big successes (I like Ruby and older Rails versions). But even then, it's *incredibly* hard to get tools that are easy to learn *and* easy to share *and* easy to deploy. I don't know any mainstream lang that comes close. And when you point out the issues, the response is always "yeah, but is even worse!" Yeah, it is, and that doesn't help at all.
