By the way, it's the basement.
I don't care about looks (beyond a certain tidiness) but rather for accessibility and future modification.
And also readability: I want future me (or random electricians) to be able to read the installation without having to remove covers or pull wires.
Not a big deal in the examples, but it will be a big thing in the rest of the installation.

Dealing with old electrics is kind of interesting. Some of the old stuff is this red wire with translucent insulation. I have never seen this stuff. I doubt that it is silicone insulation. It should be PVC or maybe an intermediate step between textile-based insulation and PVC. Does anyone know this stuff? Austria, probably mid-50s, maybe replaced in the 70s.
