Time for Mastodon #MovieClub! Movie Club is asynchronous movie watching with friends! I'll announce a movie and we have two weeks to watch and discuss together. “In the heart of a violet forest, an old house awaits young girls.” The tenth film in our series (5/7-5/20) is House (1977) by Nobuhiko Obayashi. It’s available on Criterion, HBO Max, and free with ads on Tubi and Plex Use and follow the hashtag #MovieClub and CW any spoilers!

“Hoping to find a sense of connection to her late mother, Gorgeous takes a trip with her friends to visit her aunt's ancestral house in the countryside. The girls soon discover that there is more to the old house than meets the eye.” #MovieClub

  • @Thomas@laserdisc.party ah nice! I spent a long time being confused by this poster because I didn't realize it was not the 1985 William Katt vehicle also called "House"

@Thomas@laserdisc.party I watched this movie last year & it's so good!! One of my favorite details about the film is that Nobuhiko Obayashi, feeling that adults have too limited of imagination, asked his daughter, Chigumi Obayashi, for ideas of things she thought would be scary, and incorporated several of those into the film (including, I think, the overarching concept of the house itself?)
