Fear is itself traumatic, because you rehearse, fantasize, and dream what you fear, and the unconscious is bad at knowing the difference between reality, fantasy, and dreams—except possibly in vividness. It’s all experience. You can certainly experience things that have never happened to you, over and over. Just like you can experience what has happened, over and over, in memory and imagination and dreams. The relationship between experience and reality is pretty vague.

  • I was reading a couple of Mandela effect threads on reddit, and it's not only very clear that most human memories are approximate at best, but people cannot be brought to believe it - to the degree that people who have a Mandela effect experience, and who are otherwise ordinary, reasonable folks, will start dreaming up monumental global conspiracies to explain why there was once a popular genie movie with Sinbad in the title role, and it's been erased from existence.
