@Pheneatis@mstdn.ca @AbandonedAmerica@mastodon.social yeah this is kind of what makes it tough here. We won't defederate from mastodon.social purely because it has the most real users of any instance. The thing is, before the Twitter migration, mastodon.social was still the largest, but it wasn't comparatively as large. The tool that makes fediverse moderation effective is defederating from the instances which don't comply with the rules, but when those instances get too big then, what do we do?

@Pheneatis@mstdn.ca So you want your instance to grow and think making mastodon.social the entryway prevents that from happening? Surely your instance can find new members by virtue of your current members and being interesting enough for people to want to join, no? I mean, I started on m.s then moved. The other instance I'm on won't even allow new signups (it's invite only at this point). And I'm on Cosocial.ca because I think it's a great project with real potential. @AbandonedAmerica@mastodon.social

@Pheneatis@mstdn.ca @AbandonedAmerica@mastodon.social just imagine when spammers discover that they don't need to go to the biggest instance to get roughly the same reach. I hope #fediverse is ready because this day is near.
