@KinkyKobolds DMs are direct but not private, which is important for people to know. I can't accidentally pull someone into a DM chain on birdsite, but I could here if I tagged them. Also instance owners/admins have access to them. Not laying any accusations of trust breaching against the folks behind any of the instances, but it is a security concern if you use DMs for business transactions.

    @lockelyfox Direct != private is an important note, but it's also a risk inherent in any communication that isn't secured with end-to-end encryption. It all comes down to who you trust with your communications, and the correct answer to that will necessarily depend on your personal threat modeling.
