Time for a new poll on the channel, this time on how much, or how little you customize your desktop experience! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdr9rDWwdqSwnC9LeGcY_9XSHkGH-0YERbb7YzC5wZSskyJKw/viewform I moved to Google Forms for this one, as Nextcloud Forms didn&#39;t let me split things into sections depending on a previous answer. Still no personal data collected on my end. As always, I&#39;ll make a video about the results, to see whether desktop defaults are sane, or if people change them :) Share it widely to make sure it&#39;s as representative as possible!

@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social I sort of find myself switching between DE's on a 2-3 monthly basis. I answered for GNOME in this case. I constantly tweak and modify the DE, regardless of what it is and do complete overhauls. I find that I tweak KDE with the Wallpaper Engine plugin, matte or I modify it with translucency, blur to make it glassy and modern or never-tried things. Latest KDE xp: I add a dock as a media player on top of a dock. : there isn't more options to auto-hide or prioritize them on hovering 😞

@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social Done ! Maybe something to take into account for gnome users is that you can change your GTK3 theme while keeping adwaita for GTK4/libadwaita. I use the adw-gtk3 theme to keep my apps consistent for example.

@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social It makes a big difference if you use gnome extensions for e.g. allways enable auto-rotate or if you use them for changing how you desktop works, right. Might be interesting to diffedenciate. [ ] I use them to tweak small things. When they break i dont really notice. [ ] I changed much of the desktop with them. Its a big difference when they break.

@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social that was short. Anyways, I changed pretty much everything on my KDE. I think you should ask more questions - especially with KDE it's easy to just download a whole theme/script like WhiteSur and that changes everything, even though technically you're just doing one thing. Though in my case, I install WhiteSur, then install the psifidotos widgets to make a Unity-like UX.

@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social I change the default Breeze theme, but only for a tweaked Breeze alternative, the changes are minimal. Other thing I change and is more import is the position of panels and buttons on Dolphin and some other QT programs.

@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social You could probably use Tally instead of Google Forms for these more complex polls: https://tally.so It's not owned by Google, GDPR friendly, and block based (which allows for more customization of forms). It also comes with form logic and way more question types.

@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social My distro (Void Linux) doesn't set any default font or icon or application themes for Sway. Sway defaults to icon theme "hicolor", and I install Adwaita icons; I don't know what's the default GTK theme, but I install Adwaita GTK; default font is "monospace 10", but I use Noto Fonts. I also have GNOME (Debian) on another computer, but I don't bother with customization there — I just keep the defaults.
