@agowa338 Sorry I got distracted this morning - the thread continues and mentions that point, but then someone's follow on tumblr post counters it talking about purpura.

@shivers Maybe it's both, I don't really know. However as this poem undoubtably is from way before the internet and way before the telephone it may as well just be a regional thing. You know one region had the flowers merchants brought it over long distances along and someone in a place where that colour wasn't yet named write that poem. It's easy these days to assume everyone around the entire world has access to the same knowledge at all times when it wasn't for most of human history...
