@samhenrigold@hachyderm.io i suspect a lot of these places just don’t like the design of Universal Links and have chosen to punish literally everyone over it

@samhenrigold@hachyderm.io “it looks better in the app!” … and who’s fault is that?

  • @samhenrigold@hachyderm.io But their app doesn't have an adblocker and it can get more data for advertising 😉

@samhenrigold@hachyderm.io As someone else put it, “apps” turn content filtering from mostly legal to felony reverse engineering

@samhenrigold@hachyderm.io exactly! The worst is when I find places that say “This looks better on our app”. Like that is your fault bro.

@samhenrigold@hachyderm.io This. But also I have Reddit app installed and if I click on that button it would open AppStore and not the app.

@samhenrigold@hachyderm.io on the positive side, if you see this every time when you visit the site, it's a good thing. The browser you're using isn't keeping a hidden session for you and chances are good the web page thinks you are new.

@samhenrigold@hachyderm.io I remember some old tweets from @SwiftOnSecurity@infosec.exchange (not toots though 🙃) about how awful and unfulfilling it must be to work as a web designer for Reddit, intentionally crippling functionality to try and force people to abandon your work by choice.
