One would think that 1/3 of shipped by sea fertilizer that usually crosses the strait of Hormuz suddenly not.. would be bigger news. Trump’s billion dollar “ballroom” won’t save him when food runs out in a nation with more guns than people https://carnegieendowment.org/emissary/2026/03/fertilizer-iran-hormuz-food-crisis #iranwar #trump #republicans

@hasani@my-spaces.social I think we’re a long long way from that, but…food prices going up in way that hurts seems distressingly plausible.

@hasani@my-spaces.social perfect grift opportunity for Vance to buy up huge amounts of farmland with AcreTrader partners. I don't think we were going to see a famine in the states. However, healthy food choices are going to get a lot more expensive. SNAP benefits having been already cut by around 5-20% aren't going to buy as much either.

@hasani@my-spaces.social Farmers who practice regenerative and indigenous agriculture are about to be the only reliable food producers, probably for years. Almost like that is the way.

  • @hasani@my-spaces.social thats an interesting perspective but I don't think the US will suffer. More likely this will cause 3rd world chaos, perhaps a famine somewhere.
