I’m also still wary of them as a company due to their handling of the “Apple tax”. Not that they complied with it— they hardly have a choice— but rather the way they started blasting my patrons with notifications to upsell their subscriptions, or change their billing frequency immediately afterward. Not only was that annoying, but it is still ambiguous to this day whether those prompts would make those subscriptions qualify as “having signed up via an iPhone”.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about whether I want to continue charging for my work at all. A lot of that reflection is due to the anxiety from taking time off. I keep wondering if I’d be happier if I didn’t feel that pressure, and just wrote when I wanted to. But I also recognize that if I don’t start somewhere, and push through that discomfort, I will never be able to financially sustain myself with my work. I dunno what the right answer is.

@Haste They do have a choice - they could tell Apple to kick rocks. I have only ever viewed the Patreon mobile app as completely unnecessary. (I remember them blasting me with a series of emails about "look at this feature you couldn't possibly care less about that you can only get through the mobile app! install our app!") The only thing I want from Patreon is the Lite (pay-what-you-want) plan back.
