@nelson Yeah, 'community hosting' rather than just 'self hosting' I think is a more useful path to pursue.
Most people do not have the technical skillset/time/budget/spoons/reliable internet access/etc. to self-host everything or anything they use/need; but if *someone* in your community has the skillset, and the combined budgets and capacities of the community can come up with the rest, then you can get a lot farther, include a lot more people, and leave fewer people trapped in corporate hell.

@miss_rodent And you can use different tool, like slower, store-and-forward protocols, eg UUCP/NNCP instead of SMTP for email with other communities, like we used to do before this corporate hell hole atomised us. @nelson
