@Wintermute_BBS those audio caps are in a tight space behind the keyboard connector too, I ended up removing the socket when I did that originally.
I find the actual chips from this era of Commodore are super reliable, not had one fail yet even when building ReAmigas from heat-removed chips from old boards. (The boards themselves are a different story...)

@retrotechtive I have no experience with soldering/desoldering SMD parts and even if I had, I would be too scared of damaging something. The guy who did the job has decades of experience with soldering jobs of all kinds, so I felt the machine would be in good hands. Which it was.
