ars technica: we don't know how they did it but google chrome now extracts a pint of blood every time you log on chrome user, dizzy from blood loss: I swear to god I am like this close to switching to firefox another chrome user, on the verge of fainting from severe blood loss: no need to resort to that, just switch to [insert today's trendy chrome fork here] and be smart like meeee

  • @aeva Don't you know? You can just go to Settings > Privacy > Blood Donations and toggle it off. Until the next update, anyway.

@aeva I fully get and support your statement, and if a decent(!) Firefox-based browser emerges, I'll be happy to switch. Until then, I'll have to make do with a (comparatively heavily modified) Chromium fork. In fact, that's maybe one of the reasons why Firefox is such a distant second to the Chromium family: It seems to be harder to fork and extend, for whatever technical or legal reasons. I can imagine that some of the Chromium forks out there would rather be Firefox forks if they could.

  • @aeva I was definitely that person when you first posted that. ๐Ÿ˜… Finally installed Firefox when I had to reinstall the OS due to a drive failure. ๐ŸŽ‰

@aeva I'm just waiting for firefox to have captions like chrome, idk how I kept my sanity before that feature was added to chrome

  • @aeva 90% of firefox's income comes from google paying for the default search selection, with the antitrust stuff going on that is prob going away ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

@aeva This was what I needed to switch to see to ditch chrome permanently, thank you. I've been "this close" for literally years

@aeva Kicked Chrome to the curb a while back only to get tricked into Brave. Right now running it and Firefox only until Brave can get in the sea when I have time to sit down and find something else that works with my casting setup ๐Ÿซค

@aeva For many people, I guess, #Chrome is the actual #IE, which in relation to #Firefox, is something like #Windows to #GNU + #Linux: "it's just what came by default"... We need more Firefox (#Fennec for #Android derivatives in #FDroid), and to make Firefox better (in terms of #FLOSS). #Mozilla #FreeSoftware #FreeSociety #AntiCapitalism #Internet #FreeCulture

@aeva A year after this post, the headline Firefox Now Also Draws Blood Every Time You Log On appears, with the subtitle Only half compared to Chromium
