You can treat your clothes with permethrin & it will last several washes. WARNING: when it's wet, permethrin is toxic to cats.
There's a company called Insect Shield that sells tick treated clothing & will treat your clothes with an industrial process that lasts over 50 washes.
Shower after being outdoors. Ticks are slow to move & attach.
If you are not going to wash your outdoor clothes, tumble them in a hot drier.
If you have long hair, tie it up, tick it under a hat.

Tuck your pantlegs into your socks when walking outside. If you have pets, make sure they are on tick preventatives. If you do get bitten, call your doc right away. Doxycycline is used as a lyme preventative. Be careful out there!!

@LJ does permethrin have a human-detectable smell?
