Imagine two lists.
The first is all the problems and challenges and risks faced by society.
The second is all the ideas for new tech dreamed up by eager entrepreneurs.
How many of the former are directly addressed by the latter?
The mismatch seems to only get worse. Hello? McFly?

Like all products, tech products primarily serve the needs of those with the money to pay for them. The more advanced the products, the more expensive they are, and the smaller the target audience. As inequality worsens, the customer base for good tech shrinks even further. One exception to that is government contracts. But if governments are forced to shrink—or are forcibly shrunk, by treasonous coup—then that market also dries up. The only customers left area various kinds of criminals.
