🇨🇦 Sovereign wealth fund explainer from CBC. I'm thinking Carney is hoping this is going to be a war bonds style vehicle to funnel money into domestic projects. I'm not entirely sold but it is novel. https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/canada-sovereign-wealth-fund-explainer-9.7179217?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=owned&utm_campaign=dm_cbc043026&utm_content=news&cmp=newsletter_CBC%20Newsletter_17094_2152087

@mike@thecanadian.social war bonds and other bonds are sold to absorb excess cash in the private sector, to stop it from causing inflation. Esp during a war, when the govt is printing money like crazy to pay for the war. This seems like the opposite...the govt printing $25B to be spent buying up private sector assets as part of strategic projects. I suppose that's better than just giving it directly to the private sector as no-strings subsidies, which has been happening a lot lately.
