I came to this server a few months back, hoping to (mostly) lurk, connecting with the queer mastodon community. It was a first step in a process of questioning my own experience and expression of gender. In that time I've tried to be more open to the ideas of questioning, experimenting, and taking more control about how I want to express myself, but I am still very much in the closet with most everyone. I've been open with my therapist (who I trust and who is experienced with LGBTQ+ therapy) and a close friend, but closed with everyone else, and I do not feel comfortable to step out because that kind of openness is really scary to me and because I haven't really come to terms where and how and in what way. (As an assigned male at birth person, I want to explore more femme expression, but I feel much more nonbinary in how I think that I think I want to express.)

That preamble in focus, I am wondering if anyone here might have suggestions for small, baby steps you took, or would recommend I take, when it comes to gender expression? Or, any advice in how best to tread in a moment that feels very vulnerable but also very open with possibility?
