@baoigheallain Honest to god, I try to always lightly ding my bell from a distance when on a shared path coming up behind people, just so people aren't surprised by me cycling slowly by, and you'd swear some of them have heard gunshots. #Rothar #BikeTooter

@clickhere You can't win. It’s why I've taken bells off all my bikes. I rarely use shared paths but if I do, I shout out a cheery ‘good morning’.

@clickhere @baoigheallain for every ped who’s mad you didn’t ring there are a bunch who’ll flail or even step into your way at the sound. North American culture for shared paths is based on car culture and not what works best for people. Doesn’t help that it’s all cramped. Sigh

@clickhere @baoigheallain I'm one of those easily-startled pedestrians, and I really appreciate a bell ring even if my initial reaction is ridiculous. That's just me, sorry about that! My dad used to hang a goat bell from his handlebar that made a constant tinkle. It wasn't unpleasant per se, but Jesus, if I was walking along next to him for a while it really grated.
