I want to add that this topic has caused me some sleepless nights last month, and made me feel quite sad/angry/anxious/disappointed/disillusioned… I figure many of you might feel similarly? I'm also doubting myself sometimes. This strange divide creates new, complex dilemmas for collaboration that don't seem to have good solutions. Maybe more on that another time…

@blinry Many are being forced to use it all the time, which I’m sure leads to coding muscle atrophy, and therefore to a subreptitious, career-stalling, technical debt. It might get better with the price raises (surely not with current/planned regulations), but the damage is done, the market is being poisoned. And that’s just for the professional side. Not saying anything new, anyway. I share all the other crucial worries you mentioned.

@blinry I think when looking at what other projects are deciding here that it's important to keep in mind the size of those projects. A small team will have an easy time to decide if they want to ban AI or not. But if you have a big community of like 100+ active developers it's going to become really difficult to navigate this because you don't want to risk pushing valuable contributors away with the decision. And you won't be able to convince everybody to ban AI.

@blinry thanks for putting this into words! I've also been a bit disillusioned w.r.t. use of LLMs/genAI and this helps :-)
