the two original commercial ISPs, UUNET and PSI used to have annual tour of their data centers, letting anyone who showed up in.
MAE-EAST was in a parking garage and unsecured for a good while.
this would be like having all the DCs in Ashburn open to the public. indeed simpler times.

@paul_ipv6 @sysop408 In contrast, MAE-WEST is in the basement of a former school building on Bryant Street in Palo Alto. People walk by not knowing that a lot of the west coast Internet traffic goes through there. Google Maps says it's an Equinix Data Center currently. Don't know if it's still MAE-WEST.
