Having introduced the character in Super Mario World, Nintendo decided to develop SMW 2: Yoshi's Island starring Yoshi, with the aim of making it more accessible. ⛰️ Partway into the development of Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong Country was released, resulting in its computer-generated graphics becoming the norm for SNES games. It was too late for the designers to incorporate such a style into Yoshi's Island. Instead, they pushed the hand-drawn style further. 🎨 #RetroTrivia #retrogaming #gaming

@repeatro See, I wasn't keen on the pre-rendered aesthetics of Donkey Kong Country, Killer Instinct and such and I absolutely bought Yoshi's Island pretty much as soon as it was released and I loved it. It was full of neat graphical tricks that also added to the gameplay. And showed the SNES could still hold it's own against the PlayStation and Saturn for the time being. And it's aged very nicely too. :)
