Tarzan definitely was, at least in the 1999 Disney film. The only female gorilla roughly his age that he was close with was Terk, and it’s clear they have a cousinly, lightheartedly standoffish relationship. The others in the tribe treat him prejudicially as an outsider.

I can vouch from personal experience, Terk is fair game as far as Tarzan is concerned. They do lean together, which apparently makes him last longer.
